TED#4: Kindness, care & empathy. Not part of your job description

Why is it none of these elements above, are often included as part of our job descriptions? Truth is they are not given much priority or reward, when they truly should be heralded.

Another TED classic in this short series of my recent favourites. Again Barry Schwartz talks on 'practical wisdom' as an antidote to a society that's going mad with bureaucracy, and slowly piece by piece, removing much of what makes us human. I believe this is the cause for much of the stress, depression, and unhealthy addictions many continually face as we are being moulded to be less human. Effectively all in many ways to save money...yet costing us more as a society in the (not so) long run.

Whilst advertising portrays some corporations to be caring, the truth is often a veil as many know. And with a huge myriad of rules, we all face daily, they reality is that they are beginning to fail us, and are slowly backfiring. Practicality, my favourite 'simplicity', and the ever rarer 'common sense', are our only faithful friends to avoid the inevitable hell in a hand basket we, or our children are headed for.
