Apple have been in the spotlight a lot recently for their $3billion, 'We own the rectangle' iPad dummy spit with Samsung, and frankly even that alone has been a colossal PR disaster for Apple.
Add in the fact the new iPhone 5 is just (yawn) yet more tiny tweaks, and an excuse to get you to buy ANOTHER expensive cable and adaptor you just don't need.
Now comes the 'Mapocalypse'.
Tech blogger Michael DeGusta stated;
As iO/s 6 goes live and Google in a desperate bid to get Google off their phone. Their maps have been rushed out and they are awful.
In total, 63 countries with a combined population of 5 billion people will be without one or more of these features they previously had in iOS. Apple is risking upsetting 70% of the world’s population, seemingly without much greater purpose than speeding the removal of their rival Google from iOS.
Meanwhile Google have had to now recreate an iO/s 6 map application as an extra option for Apple customers (to then search for and download) and has thier app sitting, awaiting approval by... Apple. Oh the irony! Berlin? renamed. Doncaster is now Duncaster and the list goes on.
So now UX suffers, and reputation and brand has been badly tarnished for Apple. All because someone or some team has a grudge, and wanted all encompassing control? Meanwhile squeezeing out choice for customers.
Never a good idea.
Meanwhile social media has adopted it beautifully with a fake twitter account bringing in the fail by the boatload. What did Apple do? Try to shut down the account of course! Only for it to pop up again.
The Borg are real, you were warned!
